2023 Corporate Achievement Awards

We are pleased to announce this year’s OCA Corporate Achievement Awards honorees!

The OCA Corporate Achievement Awards is an annual honor that recognizes AANHPI leaders in the corporate sector who demonstrate excellence, achievement, and leadership in their fields. Established in 1991 by OCA’s Business Advisory Council, the awards are the first of their kind to celebrate Asian American corporate excellence and achievement. Over the course of three decades, roughly 150 corporate leaders and over 30 corporate partners have received honors.

Meet the 2023 Corporate Achievement Award Honorees

Sophie Horiuchi-Forrester, AARP

San Jose Metro Manager, AARP California

Born and raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Sophie and her younger brother, were raised by immigrant parents who wanted their children to grow up with an appreciation for their Japanese heritage as well as encouraged them to fit in American culture.

After college, Sophie taught 6th grade in the Bay Area for a few years, then returned to Los Angeles to work in alumni relations at UCLA. She also got more involved in community building and volunteerism in her work there. She moved to Northern California and delved into a career in volunteer management and civic engagement. As a senior management analyst with the City of Sunnyvale, she managed the City’s volunteer program and the recruitment of volunteers and candidates for the City Council’s advisory Boards and Commission members. As staff in the City manager’s office, she also had a variety of human services-related projects that ranged from childcare to youth/family services. In her off hours, she co-authored the book, “Volunteers for the Cities” and co-founded an online resource store for volunteer programs. She was given the Member of the Year award by the Directors of Volunteers in Agencies Award in 2009 and graduated from Leadership Sunnyvale and Leadership Silicon Valley.

Sophie served as the Executive Director of Yu-Ai Kai Senior Center in San Jose’s Japantown in 2009 – 2015. She oversaw the renovation of the Akiyama Wellness Center, the second facility of Yu-Ai Kai, and introduced the agency’s first Healthy Aging Initiative. She served on the Japantown Community Congress, the California State Japanese American Leadership Council, and the Northern California Japanese American Senior Centers Association. She was a member of the Healthy Aging Network at UC Berkeley, an advisory group to the Centers for Disease Control, and the City of San Jose/County of Santa Clara Senior Nutrition Program Task Force. Family caregiving needs called her to step back from work for a few years, and she slowly worked on a mini fellowship through Stanford University’s Successful Aging and End of Life Studies program.

Seven years ago, Sophie joined the AARP California team and serves as the Regional Director in the San Jose office. She and her team serve the greater Bay Area. She is the AARP California lead on AAPI outreach, social isolation/loneliness, and digital literacy issues. She currently sits on the advisory board of CARE/UCSF and Japanese American Alzheimer’s Association Advisory Council. She also serves on the City of San Jose’s Digital Inclusion Advisory Committee and the Santa Clara County Dept. of Aging and Adult Services Digital Inclusion Committee.

A graduate of UC Berkeley in Psychology (AB) and in Education (MA), she also holds a certificate in marketing from UC Santa Cruz Extension, and continues to take classes through American Society on Aging on various topics related to gerontology. She lives in Campbell, California with her husband, two sons, and two dogs. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering with the Ginger Gals (Asian women’s service group) fostering monarch butterflies, and cooking.

Aki Li, Crossings TV

Vice President of Marketing and Sales

Aki Li is the VP of Sales and Marketing at Crossings TV, with over 10 years of experience in media and an MA in Strategic Public Relations from the University of Southern California. As a resolute impact-maker and compassionate storyteller, Aki firmly believing in the power of connecting with the Asian American experience advancing multicultural communities.

Over the past decade, Aki and her team have dedicated themselves to creating a home for the Asian Americans, amplifying the under-heard voices, connecting Asian Americans with much needed resources, and facilitating advertisers to seamlessly connect with this unique yet often overlooked consumer group. She also champions for the network’s community partnership and public service announcement programs, equipping community-based organizations and government agencies with Asian advertising resources to better serve the community.

In addition to her role in spearheading sales and marketing efforts within the company, Aki is an active member of ANA's Alliance for Inclusive and Multicultural Marketing (AIMM), where she acts as an ambassador, with a mission to engage, enlighten, and encourage brands and corporates to invest in the Asian American marketplace, as well as to help drive the progress in accurate and affordable measurement solutions for AAPI media of all forms.

In 2023, Aki was appointed as a member of OCA’s Business Advisory Council, further leveraging her business skills and passion for advocacy to serve the AAPI community.

AiChoo Wong, Walmart

Senior Director II, Ethics & Compliance Program Governance

AiChoo is the Senior Director II, Program Governance in Global Ethics & Compliance for Walmart, Inc. AiChoo leads the Program Governance Team, which consists of Monitoring & Testing, Remediation, and Training & Awareness functions. ​

AiChoo joined Walmart in August 2009.​ During her time with Walmart Internal Audit from 2009 to 2012, AiChoo led diverse team in the US during the SOX testing for SAP implementation. She also had experiences working on operation and global projects. ​

She served as Internal Audit’s Interim Market Leader for Walmart China in Aug 2011 and was promoted to Audit Director before joining Anti Corruption (A/C) ompliance in Aug 2012 as Senior Director A/C Compliance, responsible for building and leading the A/C Compliance program for China. ​

In 2015, AiChoo joined Yihaodian.com as Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer (CECO) where she developed and led a team of e-commerce professionals overseeing Yihaodian.com’s ethics and compliance program. ​

In 2016, she was promoted to be the CECO for Walmart China Retail where AiChoo played played a pivotal role in leading the key initiatives in International Ethics and Compliance organization.​

AiChoo is also the Senior Director II of Global Governance Audit in Global Audit Services for Walmart, Inc. AiChoo leads the Global Governance Team, which consists of Compliance Global Functional team, FCPA, Data Analytics and Forensics Audit functions. .

The National Asian Pacific American Corporate Achievement Awards (CAA) was established by the OCA Business Advisory Council (BAC) to provide an opportunity for companies to recognize an Asian Pacific American employee for his or her contributions to the company and community. In 1991, the first Corporate Achievement Awards were held in San Francisco, CA. For 30 years, OCA has been honored to recognize Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) for excellence, achievement, and leadership in the corporate sector. Each year, companies have an opportunity to nominate one of their own AAPI employees for their accomplishments and contributions. Recipients are chosen for recognition through their demonstration of leadership and commitment to the company and their commitment and dedication to the AAPI community.
