  • OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates, a national membership driven organization of community advocates dedicated toward advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans, is seeking a part-time, exempt OCA Archives Fellow to conduct research and write about OCA and its chapters. The OCA Archives Fellow will be working with an OCA Documentary Fellow, along with other OCA staff members, to produce a 10-15 minute documentary short about an OCA chapter within a 1-year project timeline. The OCA Archives Fellow will be expected to conduct primarily independent research, with access to OCA chapter leaders and members, gather and organize primary and secondary resources, and contribute to the storyboard and scripting of the short film. This 1-year role will begin as soon as possible, and no later than April 30, 2025.

    Job Title: OCA Archives Fellow, Entry Level
    Location: Washington, DC Department: Programs
    Reports to: Chapter & Membership Development Manager

    Job Description: The Archives Fellow will work with the OCA Documentary Fellow, Sr. Programs Manager, Chapter & Membership Development Manager, and Associate Development Manager to produce a single 10-15 minute documentary video about an OCA chapter. The Fellow’s responsibilities include:

    • Coordinate with OCA chapters, its members and late-members’ families on research and interviews

    • Conduct research about the selected OCA chapter

    • Collect digital and print materials about the OCA chapter

    • Conduct interviews with OCA members via Zoom or phone calls

    • One in-person trip is required to the city where the selected OCA chapter is located

    • Conduct interviews

    • Review, scan, sort archival material related to OCA chapter

    • Produce storyboard for short film with team

    • Write script for short film with OCA Documentary Fellow

    • Other tasks as assigned related to this project

    Desired Skills:

    • Currently undergraduate or graduate student in a related field (archaeology, archival, museum studies, filmmaking, etc.)

    • Strong interpersonal skills

    • Team player and self-starter attitude 

    • Excellent communication and writing skills

    • Willingness to learn quickly and strong performance under time pressure

    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and Zoom

    • Skills in photography or scanning preferred

    • Deep understanding and passion for Asian American and Pacific Islander issues

    Compensation: The OCA Archives Fellow is paid a project stipend of $10,000 ($5,000 to be paid at the half-way mark and $5,000 at the end of the 1-year fellowship.) Technology support (hardware, internet connection, etc.) is provided on an as-need basis.

    Hours: While the Fellow is expected to work part-time, compensation is provided on a project-completion basis. Fellows will not be expected to work more than 15 hours per week, with the exception of the in-person trip to the OCA Chapter.
