Washington, DC - OCA–Asian Pacific American Advocates makes the following statements regarding the Supreme Court’s dismissal of a case challenging the Trump Administration’s harmful policies on Immigrants and their Census count regarding representation in Congress:

To exclude residents of the United States in a count that would represent them in national government based on their status is discriminatory and wrong. OCA supports immigrants of all statuses, and advocates for their protection and inclusion at all costs. The importance of a complete Census count constitutes encompassing all persons residing in the United States; thus translating to representation in government which includes said individuals.

Disallowing immigrants of various statuses to be included in representation in Congress sends the wrong message that not all who live in the United States have a voice or matter. This is simply not true; immigrants and citizens alike pay taxes, have rights and freedoms in the United States, and should be granted the same protections and privileges. OCA calls on the Supreme Court, elected officials, and the Trump Administration to reconsider the challenge to this discriminatory practice.

OCA - Asian Pacific American Advocates is dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs).
