Washington, D.C. — OCA - Asian Pacific American Advocates released the following statement today urging the Senate to swiftly confirm Julie Su as the next U.S. Secretary of Labor.
Julie Su is a champion of the working class and an irrefutable leader who has dedicated her career to advancing the rights and dignity of workers. Throughout her career, Ms. Su has demonstrated leadership in protecting immigrant workers and strengthening protections for the most vulnerable in our community. As the Deputy Labor Secretary, she has been instrumental in implementing President Biden’s agenda to create good-paying jobs, protect workers’ health and safety, and protecting American workers. As the second Asian American woman to be nominated for a Cabinet-level position in the Biden administration, she will continue her role in overseeing and enforcing state labor laws, combatting wage theft, and fighting for equal pay, especially for women of color who experience a racial and gender wage gap.
We urge the Senate to recognize Ms. Su as an immensely qualified candidate to become the next U.S. Secretary of Labor. OCA calls on the Senate to confirm her without further delay.
