Washington, D.C. — OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates announced that it will host its 45th National Convention in-person at Bally’s Las Vegas Hotel and Casino in Nevada, two years after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the organization to move the annual event to a virtual format.

OCA’s Las Vegas chapter, the co-host, is set to welcome members and allies from August 4-6 with the theme “Building Our Community’s Heroes,” which is intended to both uplift unsung Asian American and Pacific Islander figures and highlight the importance of mentorship.

This year’s convention line-up features four different tracks, dozens of free workshops and trainings, and keynote addresses featuring notable Asian Americans such as Chef Martin Yan, Alex and Maia Shibutani, Panney Wei, Benny Luo, Colin Fukunaga, Konrad Ng, and more. OCA will also honor Representative Ted Lieu, Andrew Ko, Stephanie Hu, and the late Irene Wu during a national awards gala on August 6.

For the first time, the OCA National Convention will also host joint workshops and plenaries with the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) as the JACL National Convention will also be held in the same hotel over the same dates. OCA and JACL Convention participants will be able to attend sessions from either conference.

Registration for the 2022 Convention closes at the end of the month, and hotel bookings close July 12. Members of the public can sign up for announcements, download OCA’s event app, and explore sponsorship opportunities at ocanationalconvention.org.

Since 1973, tens of thousands of OCA members from across the country have gathered to facilitate discussions on AAPI identity and develop the next generation of AAPI leaders. The 2022 event comes ahead of intense planning to commemorate the nonprofit’s 50th anniversary next year.
