Washington, D.C.OCA - Asian Pacific American Advocates issued the following statement:

We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives in Gaza and Israel. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the victims, and we pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.

It is important to foster a culture of respect and understanding, especially in times of conflict. Therefore, caution is urged in rhetoric that can be harmful to Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, Jewish, Sikh, and South Asian Americans.

We denounce all forms of racial profiling and acts of hate against Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, Jewish, Sikh, and South Asian American students, other individuals. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or religion.

Those who have overcome intergenerational trauma or are still learning and unlearning from generations of traumatic histories to fight hate and discrimination against Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, Jewish, Sikh, and South Asian individuals in America have our support. Acknowledging the impact of historical trauma and working towards healing and reconciliation is important.

We urge collective efforts to promote peace, understanding, and respect for all people.
