Washington, DC - OCA–Asian Pacific American Advocates released the following statement today in regards to a strategic partnership with Lyft to help combat COVID-19 in communities across the country.
Lyft provided OCA with free Lyft ride credits to help ensure thousands of people around the country have access to affordable transportation through OCA chapters in New York City, Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis, Sacramento, San Gabriel Valley, and Oakland, California. These municipalities, many of which are in states listed as having the highest concentrations of persons affected by COVID-19, are in dire need of supplies and other essential items.
The ride credit will be used for numerous essential transportation needs, including to help volunteers deliver personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks and face coverings to healthcare workers, food banks, police stations, and senior centers. The ride credit will also be shared with essential workers who care for and provide meals to low-income, immigrant, and Asian American community members.
“OCA is proud to partner with Lyft to bring essential goods and caregiving services to Asian American and Pacific Islander seniors and PPE to frontline workers. We are grateful to our corporate partners who have been stepping up to offer what resources they can to communities in need," said Ken Lee, OCA National Chief Executive Officer. "With chapters across the country such as New York City, Cleveland, Detroit, and St. Louis, we are thankful to utilize Lyft's aid in the direct services we are able to provide.”
OCA–Asian Pacific American Advocates is a national civil rights organization dedicated to improving the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs).
