AN OPEN LETTER TO THE GREATER OCA COMMUNITY

August 18, 2020

Dear OCA Members, Supporters, and Extended Family:

On August 17, 2020, we received an open letter calling for greater organizational accountability from some of our current and former staff. As members of the OCA National Executive Council, we take the contents of this letter seriously and support our staff's rights to express themselves openly and freely.

On behalf of OCA and the Executive Council, we want to assure you that we are working with the OCA National Center staff to investigate what was addressed in the open letter thoroughly. For our investigation, we have established a Task Force with the sole responsibility for listening, learning, and understanding how we can make OCA a stronger organization. This Task Force will begin their work immediately.

To ensure a full and thorough investigation, we ask for your patience. We want to ensure that our actions ultimately enable OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates to become an even more genuine, transparent, and compassionate organization.

As one of the most-recognized Asian American and Pacific Islander civil rights organizations in the country, we must acknowledge the challenges and difficulties we face as a membership-driven organization.  We also accept the responsibility to stay true to our core mission, vision, and ideals.

You have our commitment to being accountable to our staff, members, and to the greater AAPI community. Furthermore, we will continue to broaden equity, equality, and opportunity for individuals within our organization and in the communities we serve.

Respectfully,

OCA National Executive Council
