Washington, D.C. — OCA-Asian Pacific Advocates, a national member-driven organization dedicated to empowering Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities, applauded the final passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The legislative package, which cleared the House on Friday evening, now heads to President Biden’s desk.

“We urged Congress to swiftly pass this much-needed infrastructure bill back in August and again in October. Friday’s vote is long overdue,” said OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates National President Linda Ng. “This historic legislation not only boosts our economy at a moment when it is still vulnerable, but it directly aids Asian American and Pacific Islander families who are burdened by pollution, lack of reliable access to broadband service, and decaying public transportation.”

“While we are excited for this once-in-a-generation investment in America’s infrastructure, Congress must also pass the Build Back Better Act without delay,” said OCA’s Executive Director Thu Nguyen. “This landmark bill is urgently needed by our communities to support overlooked AAPIs and deliver the basic caregiving and education services they deserve.”
