Washington, DC - OCA releases the following statements on the Trump Administration’s push to end the 2020 Census count early, greenlighted via the Supreme Court:
A complete and accurate Census count is of utmost importance for all communities. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are the fastest growing ethnic groups in the United States, and any data collection that fails to encompass all of the intricacies of our communities will result in inequitable policymaking, appropriation of financial resources, and data disaggregation for the next decade.
“Despite the Census Bureau showing 99% enumeration for states, we know there are folks out there who have not completed their Census self-reported or via a visit from a Census Bureau worker. 99% of the country is not 100% of the country; until we count everyone, a true snapshot of this country does not exist,” says Ken Lee, CEO of OCA National. “No matter who you are, where you live, and your immigration status, everyone everywhere must be counted. ”
The Census Bureau will continue to accept responses at my2020census.gov until 11:59 PM HST.
OCA–Asian Pacific American Advocates is a national civil rights organization dedicated to improving the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs).
